Levanto
Levanto, città di origini pre-romaniche, giace all’estremo nord dei seducenti paesini delle Cinque Terre. Il nome Levanto deriva dal latino medioevale levantem, oriente, nel senso di "luogo che si trova a oriente di Genova". La città di Levanto ha un interessante centro storico, tante belle ville dipinte, un vivace mercato del mercoledì, buoni ristoranti e negozi. Nella piazza principale, Piazza della Loggia, si trova una deliziosa loggia del 13° secolo. Levanto vanta un clima particolarmente mite. La lunga spiaggia di sabbia è ideale per tutte le attività balneari. E’ un ottima base per surfisti, che arrivano da tutte le parti d’Europa, ed è molto amata dai velisti. Sempre sulla spiaggia, si trovano anche una piscina e un centro immersioni subacquee. In estate ci sono molti concerti ed eventi musicali dal vivo. Ogni anno si svolge il “Laura Film Festival”, ed è possibile partecipare a numerose maratone di degustazioni. L’area vanta anche un’eccellente tradizione culinaria, grazie ai vini delle Cinque Terre e alle ricette di pesce locali. Levanto è un ottimo punto di partenza per visitare i paesini delle Cinque terre, sia in treno, via mare o cimentandosi in escursioni. Genova, Pisa, Lucca e Firenze possono essere facilmente visitate in un giorno, via treno o auto. Levanto è vicina agli aeroporti di Genova (60 km) e di Pisa (70 km).
Levanto, a town of pre-Romanesque origins, lies at the far north of the seductive small towns of the Cinque Terre. The Levanto name derives from the medieval Latin levantem, east, in the sense of "a place that is in the east of Genoa". The town of Levanto has an interesting historical center, many beautiful painted villas, a lively Wednesday market, good restaurants and shops. In the main square, the Loggia Square, there is a delightful loggia of the 13th century. Levanto boasts a particularly mild climate. The long sandy beach is ideal for all seaside activities. It is a great base for surfers, who come from all over Europe, and is very much loved by sailors. Along the beach, there is also a swimming pool and a scuba diving center. In summer there are many concerts and live music events. Every year the "Laura Film Festival" takes place, and it is possible to participate in numerous tasting marathons. The area also boasts an excellent culinary tradition, thanks to the wines of the Cinque Terre and local fish recipes. Levanto is a great starting point to visit the small villages of the Cinque Terre, either by train, by sea or by hiking on excursions. Genoa, Pisa, Lucca and Florence can easily be visited in a day, by train or by car. Levanto is close to the airports of Genoa (60 km) and Pisa (70 km).
